A Campus Planning Conference will be held at GREEN Inc next week on February 17 & 18. Approximately 60 academic and administrative staff will be participating in discussions on the future direction of the Gippsland Campus. There will be presentations from the Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard Larkins, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Stephen Parker, Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Professor Edwina Cornish and Reynold Dias, Financial Resources Management (FIRM). Dr Marion Collis from Gippsland Research & Information Service (GRIS) will be presenting the recent market research report into undergraduate and postgraduate demand at the Gippsland Campus. Group sessions will be held focusing on budgets, courses, governance, research priorities and academic programs.

‘Uni Student for a Day’ is a new event being offered at the Gippsland Campus in April 2005. Current students at the Campus will pair up with senior secondary students and help them experience university life for a day taking in lectures, tutorials and showing them around the campus while sharing their own transition experiences.

• Making the Grade

Susie Noppert, Postgraduate student in the School of Applied Sciences & Engineering was presented an award of excellence at the 2004 Postgraduate Student Symposium at Monash Medical Centre. Susie who commenced her PhD in 2002 was recognised for excellence in delivering her research findings during the 2004 seminar program. Susie focuses her research on the ‘Role of Interferon Signaling in Inflammatory Responses’.

Staff from the Gippsland Campus have been busy visiting various Gippsland Secondary schools presenting the Monash Prize to outstanding Year 11 students from the 2004 school year. Phil Higgins, John Arkinstall and Alistair Carr from the School of Applied Sciences & Engineering presented awards at Gippsland Grammar, St Pauls Warragul and Trafalgar High School.

• Open Subject

Year 11 and 12 students from Traralgon, Lowanna, Swifts Creek and Lakes Entrance Secondary Colleges will be holding their Orientation Programs at the Gippsland Campus this week. These orientation programs are designed to prepare students for the year ahead with workshops on time management, achieving the right mix of work and pleasure time, motivational speakers and getting students thinking about their career choices which will need to be made at the end of the year. Flinders Secondary College also held their Orientation Program at the campus last week.
