Businesses Dressed For Success

Bass Coast businesses are donning their best bike gear as Grand Prix fever takes over the Shire.

The 2009 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will be held on Phillip Island from 16–18 October. Bass Coast Shire Council, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Lombard The Paper People are sponsoring the Best Dressed Business competition, to encourage local businesses to get into the spirit of the event.

"The first 50 businesses to register their interest for this competition will receive a free shop display starter kit valued at $70," explained Bass Coast Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane.

"There are award categories for different sized businesses and all the participating businesses will be invited to a special prize presentation.

"In past years, we have seen some fantastic window displays, so we are looking forward to seeing what our local businesses come up with this year."

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr John Duscher, is looking forward to his debut on the competition judging panel.

"I have been told the competition is fierce and I know that an amazing amount of thought and effort goes into these displays," said Cr Duscher.

"It creates a wonderful atmosphere and helps make it a very special event for people visiting our Shire.

"The panel will be looking at the overall impact of the display, its position and location and the link between the business and the theme of the display," explained Cr Duscher.

"We are looking for creativity and originality!"

Prizes will be awarded in the category of Micro Business, Small Business and Large Business, with winners receiving two Grandstand tickets.

The runners up in each section will receive two Sunday general admission tickets.

The three windows judged the best across all categories will be presented with a certificate and a framed 2009 GP poster.

There will also be a Judges Choice award of two Sunday general admission tickets.

The Prizes will be announced at the Best Dressed Business Presentation on Tuesday, 13 October at the Silverwater Resort San Remo from 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Entry forms are available by contacting Council’s Events Officer, Janine Temme, on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) and must be in before Friday, 2 October.
