Maffra teens to benefit from book room

By Wellington Shire Council - 12th November 2004 - Back to News

Wellington Shire Council will be launching its new-look Teen Book Room at the Maffra Public Library on Friday December 3 at 1.00pm – which will provide a funky and private retreat for local teenagers to kick-back, unwind and embark on a range of activities.

Council and library staff recently teamed-up with Maffra Secondary College students to brainstorm ideas for the best way to revamp the room which will be unveiled with a new name, new red, purple and yellow colour scheme, a Playstation and a whole new range of books, CDs, DVDs and videos.

Local teenagers can use this facility do their homework, research their latest project, catch up on their emails, or just chill out on the new couches and beanbags and enjoy the magazines, books and the new collection of graphic novels.

For more information about the Maffra Public Library Teen Book Room please telephone Cathy Carr in Wellington’s Library Service on 1300 366 244.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "This re-vamped Teen Book Room is designed by local teens for local teens, with the books and magazines they want to read. The council hopes that it will become a well-used gathering place and hub of activity for the youth of Maffra and surrounds to make full use of. Maffra Library also now boasts six free public-access internet computers with broadband access, which will allow for fast internet access and downloading capabilities for the whole community.
