It might not feel like it yet but the season of summer is officially upon us and the warmer days are on their way! Baw Baw Shire Council proudly supports the Better Health Survive the Heat campaign, which shares practical tips on how to keep cool, and stay safe and healthy during summer.
Enjoy seasonal outdoor pools in multiple locations and a Rawson indoor pool, open annually. Thorpdale Pool offers free family entry!
Know more, enjoy more
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe reminded residents to look out for one another and make sensible decisions on days of extreme heat. "Remember to stay well hydrated, try and stay indoors where it's cool and know the signs of heat related illnesses," Cr McCabe said.
You can find the Better Health extreme heat advice here Extreme heat - Better Health Channel. If you want to keep the family entertained this summer but also keep cool, there are plenty of things to do in Baw Baw that are heat healthy.
Baw Baw Shire has seasonal outdoor swimming pools in Drouin, Neerim South, Thorpdale and Trafalgar, and the indoor pool at Rawson, open to the community from 1 December - 1 April annually. For the fourth consecutive year, the Thorpdale Pool will have free entry for all families, so dive in for a swim on a warm day this summer. To learn more, visit Warragul Leisure Centre website.
Books to cool you down
In addition to the outdoor pools, our local libraries will keep you protected from the sun, with locations spread across the Shire including in Warragul, Drouin and Neerim South. Cr McCabe said that the council-supported library service was a wonderful asset to the community and something residents could make the most of all year round. To find out more about Baw Baw's library service visit the Myli - My Community Library website.
If you are out and about outside, don't forget about the drinking fountains that were installed outside two major landmarks in Baw Baw earlier this year; located outside the West Gippsland Arts Centre in Warragul and the Turra Pavilion in Trafalgar.
The West Gippsland Arts Centre will have an impressive program of shows and exhibitions happening throughout December, January and February. Visit the Arts Centre website to find out more and to book your tickets, proceed to West Gippsland Arts Centre website. There's plenty to see, do and keep you cool during the summer months so stay tuned to council's social media channels to find out what's coming up.
