Media Statement

I have had discussions with the Minister for Health Bronwyn Pike in respect to the appointment of an administrator to the Central Gippsland Health Service.

By Philip Davis - 19th November 2004 - Back to News

The Health Minister has personally assured me that it is the Government’s intention to maintain comprehensive acute health services at Sale.

She also assured me that following the necessary review of governance, financial and management performance, the health service will be returned to the control of a local board of management at the earliest opportunity.

I am pleased the Minister has taken into account my concerns that the recently contributed community funds be held at arms length from the health service’s day-to-day operating funds.

In the event that an administrator was to be appointed, I am pleased with the choice of Mr Peter Craighead as a person of great ability, integrity and compassion and I am confident therefore that the health service and community will be in good hands.

I have known Mr Craighead for many years in his capacity as manager of the Yarram and District Health Service, where his leadership has facilitated significant redevelopment.
