‘Localising human services: a history of local government human services in Victoria’, has recently been written by Dr Robert Lowell, Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences at the Gippsland Campus. This is the first history of local government human services in Victoria, covering the period from settlement to the present time. Dr Lowell has been involved in the welfare industry since 1964, and helped pioneer human services in the Gippsland region during the 1970’s and 80’s. Dr Lowell is currently preparing to write the first longitudinal history of Australian rural welfare using the Gippsland region as a case history.

Ms Julie Adams, Head, Centre for Art and Design at the Gippsland Campus will be officially opening the Rodney Forbes exhibition at the Latrobe Regional Gallery on Friday, April 7 at 6pm. The exhibition titled ‘Rodney Forbes 1995-2005’ is a selection of paintings from 10 years of work. Rodney is a Lecturer in Visual Arts at the Gippsland Campus Centre for Art & Design.

The Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Brian Mackenzie will be hosting a ‘Welcome’ function to recognise the arrival of the Gippsland Education Precinct (GEP) partners and staff on March 31st at the Gippsland Campus. The function will acknowledge the GEP contribution to pathways development and the positive relationship between the two organisations.

Approximately 90 senior secondary school students from Luther College, Ringwood will be visiting the Gippsland Campus on Monday, March 27. The students will be undertaking interactive activities and a tour of the campus and accommodation.

  • Making the Grade

Education students were putting their outdoors skills to the test last week. One group were on the Hazelwood Pondage practising their kayaking skills for a river trip later in the year while another group were on a three day field trip to Bear Gully as part of their course in ‘Experiencing the Australian Landscape’.

Associate Professor Rowena Barrett from the Faculty of Business & Economics at the Gippsland Campus has been awarded a $14,000 Faculty research grant to look at merger and acquisitions of listed family businesses and the impact of succession planning on firm value and performance.
