‘Ability Grouping in a Rural Setting: An Enabling or Disabling Experience’ will be presented by Lecturer, Margaret Plunkett, at the Faculty of Education Research Seminar on Wednesday, August 31 at 2pm at the Gippsland Campus. Ms Plunkett presented this conference paper at the 16th Biennial World Conference of the World Council for Gifted Children in New Orleans, USA earlier this month.

‘Changing images of God’ is the title of the ‘iThink’ forum to be presented by Reverend Lyn Porritt at the Gippsland Campus on Tuesday, August 30.

Making the Grade

Ms Barbie Panther from the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering is currently taking part in a Scientist in Residence Program at Sacred Heart Primary School, Morwell. This government funded program aims to support science primary teachers and lift the profile of science. This term students are focusing on states of matters and have made slime, investigated the properties of gases and made casein (plastic) from milk.

Associate Professor Mustafa Isreb from the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering at the Gippsland Campus was one of the judges in the recent Engineers Australia EngQuest competition run by Engineers Australia. EngQuest is a fun and hands-on way of learning new skills in science and technology with students discovering how engineers use these skills every day to make lives easier, safer and more enjoyable. Gippsland regional prize winners, Mallacoota P-12 College, Toongabbie Primary School and Leongatha Secondary College were presented with their awards at the Powerworks Energy Technology and Visitor’s Centre in Morwell last week.

Approximately 300 school children from regional Victoria converged on the Gippsland Campus last weekend for the annual Tournament of the Minds competition.

"Who Invited Winter?" is the title of the next free lunchtime concert to be performed by Hue Blanes (piano and vocals), Ben Gorrie (drums) and Michael Mcinernet (double bass) with performances by students from the School of Music Conservatorium at the Gippsland Campus on August 31 at 1pm in the Hexagon.
