Calendar profiles Indigenous TraineeshipsA calendar highlighting the benefits of Indigenous Traineeships for Aboriginal people and employers was jointly launched at the Quality Inn (Latrobe Convention Centre) on Friday By Latrobe Shire Council - 11th June 2004 - Back to News A calendar highlighting the benefits of Indigenous Traineeships for Aboriginal people and employers was jointly launched at the Quality Inn (Latrobe Convention Centre) on Friday by Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White and State Manager of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), Bob Harvey.
The calendar features photographs of twelve Indigenous trainees who are employed in a diverse range of occupations throughout Gippsland, including dental nursing, agriculture, building, administration, painting and decorating and childcare.
Each of the trainees featured on the calendar pages, discusses the benefits they’ve received through their traineeship and shares positive aspects of their employment experience. Their employers too, are featured on the calendar pages, discussing benefits that have flowed to them as a result of having taken on an Indigenous trainee.
Latrobe City’s Indigenous Employment Co-ordinator, Joanne Brunt, said the Indigenous Traineeship program had enabled the Indigenous community to choose a pathway towards a career opportunity of their choice.
"It has now become a proven and powerful tool to increase Indigenous employment and career development, and I am extremely proud of the program which has had a positive impact within our community and wider community, Ms Brunt said.
"Working with members of the Indigenous community who are featured in the calendar has overwhelmingly confirmed the success of the program. All of the trainees and employers taking part have been enthusiastic and positive about the two-way benefits that have flowed, the positive partnerships that have resulted, and the relationships formed," Ms Brunt said.
