Precautions For Home Security When On Holidays:
-
¨ Remove money and valuables to a place of safety, such as a bank.
-
¨ Consider asking the Post Office to hold your mail during lengthy absences, or if you have a good neighbour you may prefer to ask them to collect and hold your mail.
-
¨ Use timing switches for lights and radios to create the appearance that someone is home.
-
¨ Lock away garden tools, ladders or any other implements which could help somebody to
-
break into your home.
-
¨ Don’t leave spare keys hidden in the house.
-
¨ Have someone mow your lawn and keep your house exterior tidy. Trim shrubs growing near the house, if they are overgrown they could provide a hiding place.
-
¨ Let relatives and trusted neighbours know where you are going and for how long you will be absent. Always leave a contact address and phone number.
-
¨ Keep blinds and curtains open. Make the house look lived in. Ask a neighbour if they could park their car in the driveway occasionally.
-
¨ If possible leave a house key with a relative or friend who live nearby, or a trusted neighbour.
-
¨ Most important obtain an "Absence from Residence" form from the Police Station, or Zone Leader, fill it in and leave it at the Police Station.
Police Warning:
Police have recently received information about the activities of a male person, or persons, who have been observed taking photographs of children around local schools, and playgrounds. Sometimes those involved are taking the photographs whilst seated in their vehicles. Police ask that if you observe this type of activity that you report it immediately to either the local police or the emergency 000 number. If you have information in relation to a past incident of persons photographing children in public places, and suspect vehicles around schools, playgrounds or pools, that may not have been reported. Contact Acting Sergeant Brett Godden on 5131 5085.
The Guest Speaker at the November Meeting was Police Superintendent Chris. Major of the Morwell Police Precinct. He spoke of the increased police activity in the area, resulting in the greatly reduced incidence of crime. Residents are reminded to ring 000 to report any suspicious behaviour. These calls are treated as confidential, patrols can then be sent where there is a demand. In the new year two new police positions will be filled.
The Police, Advance Morwell, and Shop Traders, have been working together to encourage people not to engage in unruly behaviour in the CBD. Security cameras may be installed to address problems in bus stop areas.
