Member for Morwell Russell Northe has invited community groups to share in $3 million for the Victorian Coalition Government¡¦s next round of funding for Communities for Nature grants.

¡§I encourage community groups and schools in the Morwell electorate to apply for funding for projects that support local environmental initiatives,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§These grants are set to be used by Victorian local community groups to restore and improve public spaces through revegetation, weed control, litter removal or other projects that support our waterways.

The last round of the Victorian Coalition Government funding for Communities for Nature grants saw 106 Victorian groups share in $826,245 in funding. This round will now be even bigger and I encourage the local community in the Morwell electorate to get involved.

Mr Northe said previously a number of local environmental groups have received funding including:

„h Friends of Tyers Park received $70,000 for Willow Control along Tyers River

„h Friends of Fox¡¦s Road received $4,420 for revegetation along Rice¡¦s Lane

„h Morwell Park Primary School received $8,060 for the Habitat Chat project

„h Yinnar South Primary School received $2,000 for the Growing Our Future project

¡§By supporting everyday Victorians to make improvements to their local landscape and turn visions into realities in parks, reserves and waterways, we all benefit,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§The actions of passionate communities create a visible and lasting improvement to the environment for everyone to enjoy and benefit from, now and in the future.¡¨

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith said this was part of the Victorian Coalition Government¡¦s $20 million Communities for Nature program and highlights the Government¡¦s commitment to partnership working between government, community and environmental groups.

¡§Victoria¡¦s environment continues to benefit from this government¡¦s commitment to providing local community groups with the support needed to deliver environmental benefits¡¨ Mr Smith said.

¡§The Communities for Nature program is another example of how the Coalition Government is delivering real and tangible support to local communities to directly benefit Victoria¡¦s environment.¡¨

Applications are open until Monday 1 September 2014.
