During the September school holidays Gippsland Secondary school students will be taking the opportunity to ‘Be a Uni Student for a Day’. This program is organised by Marketing & Public Affairs. Secondary students are matched up with current university students undertaking the same course of interest and spend a day seeing what university life is all about going to lectures and tutorials and getting a feel for the campus. Thirty students took part in the program’s inaugural event held in April 2005.
‘Poetry, expression and spirituality’ is the title of the ‘iThink’ forum to be presented by Associate Professor Lindsay Fitzclarence at the Gippsland Campus on Tuesday, September 20. ‘iThink’ is a series of lunchtime talks which probe views about religion and spirituality from various perspectives.
‘The irreversibility of Irreversible: Material and Narrative Irreversibility in Film Time’ is the topic to be discussed by Dr Paul Atkinson at the Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences on Thursday, September 22 at 11am in the Link Room. Based on Gaspar Noe’s film "Irreversible’ and Bergson’s theory of duration, Dr Atkinson will explore the style of film where the story is shown in reverse beginning with the scene of retribution and going back chronologically in the film to how the end result eventuated. This event is open to the public.
Making the GradeStudents from Monash University Gippsland Campus held ‘Churchill Idle’ in the Student Union Lounge last week with over 300 enthusiastic critics coming along to cheer on their favourite act. From the great line up of dancers, singers, comedians and bands, a solo act, Karen Harding won the competition.
