Another Great Year For Foreshore Planting Another Great Year For Foreshore Planting There is one more opportunity to take part in Bass Coast’s successful season of volunteer tree plantings. By Bass Coast - 7th October 2011 - Back to News
David Martin, Bass Coast Shire Council’s Natural Resource Officer said this month sees the last of the programmed working bees set aside for revegetating our foreshore reserves.
"This will bring the total number of plants distributed by volunteers to nearly 10,000. This is an exceptional effort and they all deserve our warmest thanks," Mr Martin said.
Ventnor Coast Care Association and Cape Paterson Residents and Ratepayers Association are having their last planting day on Saturday, 15 October. The Ventnor group are meeting at Aloha Drive foreshore entrance at 10.00am. Cape Paterson Residents and Ratepayers Association meet at 9.30am at the Wonthaggi Surf Life Saving Club. Cape Woolamai Coast Action Group undertook a working bee on October 8 near at the access track off Broadbeach Rd.
Mr Martin recognised that this group has had a busy year, with four planting days in Cape Woolamai Foreshore Reserve.
"While we are the end of the scheduled plantings, this is by no means the last working bee for the year, as groups continue the hard work with other bushland management activities.
"These range from weed control, rubbish collection and revegetation site maintenance.
"Bass Coast Shire Council has a lot to be thankful for with very active groups in most foreshore and bushland reserves. "These groups are always looking for new volunteers to share the outdoors," Mr Martin said.
