Weedbuster Field DayA special Weed Information Day focusing on serrated tussock will be held in the Valencia Creek area on Saturday, October 13. By Department of Primary Industries - 2nd October 2007 - Back to News Weeds cost the Australian community over $4 billion annually, and once weeds are established they can be very difficult and costly to control.
Maffra and the surrounding area are home to a diverse range of weeds, both agricultural and environmental, which are rapidly invading our farming areas.
DPI Pest Management Officers Miranda Green and Kylie Woods will be facilitating the Weed Information Day at Cath Noble’s property at the corner of Bushy Park and Valencia Creek-Briagolong Road, Valencia Creek.
The Weed Information Day will run from 11am to 3pm and is being held in partnership with West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (CMA) Project Officer Peter Steller.
DuPont Herbicide Representative David Richards will also be attending to give a presentation on herbicides and the role they play in weed control.
The day will provide all landowners with the opportunity to learn about the targeted weed programs in the local area, and other weeds of interest.
DPI Pest Management Officers will be providing detailed information on identification, control and ongoing/integrated management techniques for Serrated Tussock.
State Prohibited Weeds will also be displayed on the day and DPI Weed Alert Contact Officer Kylie Woods will deliver a presentation on these plants.
Come along and join the interactive, hands-on day of ‘weed talk’.
A free BBQ lunch will be held at the completion of the weed information session and Miranda, Kylie, and Peter would welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss with you any matters of interest.
Please RSVP for catering purposes.
Contact Miranda Green at DPI Ellinbank on 5624 2217 or Kylie Woods at DPI Leongatha on 5662 9919 to RSVP or for further information.
