Churchill Football Club Lights Up Member for Morwell Russell Northe today officially opened the recently installed new sports field lighting at Gaskin Park, Churchill. By Russell Northe - 13th August 2014 - Back to News Mr Northe said the Coalition Government committed $100,000 as a 2010 election commitment to improve lighting at Gaskin Park Reserve in Churchill. "The works included installation of four new light poles and upgrades to electrical infrastructure which will power the new lights and allow for further expansion to the facilities at Gaskin Park," Mr Northe said. "The installation of the new lights will enable community and other events to be hosted at Gaskin Park of an evening or night time in a safer environment for both participants and spectators alike. "Improving our sporting infrastructure ensures that our local sports community is able to participate fully in competition and attract new members. By providing facilities that are equipped with the best amenities now allows Gaskin Park to provide for a wider range of training options for those clubs that use the reserve."
The Victorian Government provided funding of $100,000; Latrobe City Council contributed $100,000 and the Churchill Football Netball Club also offered assistance during this project.
Mr Northe said Churchill Football Netball Club had also been successful in receiving funding through the Victorian Coalition Government’s Community Safety Fund.
"Churchill Football Netball Club received funding for the installation of a new alarm system, deadlocks to external doors and external lighting above exit doors to deter break-ins," Mr Northe said.
"This funding enables the Churchill Football Netball Club to provide safer and more secure facilities for local people.
"These improvements will ensure that the Churchill sporting community will benefit greatly for many years to come."
Churchill Football Netball Club Committee Member Mark Answerth said the lighting project had been in the making for the past 12 years.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the installation of the new lighting, prior to this the lights at the ground were of a sub-standard nature, without the assistance of Russell this would not have been possible," Mr Answerth said.
