Another COVID leak out of hotel quarantineVictorians get into another lockdown, workers and businesses are being closed again.
By news@gippsland - 11th June 2021 - Back to News The cat is out of the bag: the highly infections Delta COVID-19 variant escaped into our community from a leak in Melbourne hotel quarantine – again. Another failure in Labor’s hotel quarantine program as 6.5 million Victorians were forced back into strict lockdown.
Lockdown doesn’t just mean loss of income, that even if it is just a short period of lockdown days, small business owners being 'destroyed', continuing to struggle under the weight of another lockdown, with owners losing thousands of dollars of revenue
Businesses closed again
As a result, casual and part-time workers missed out on another week’s pay. Our already struggling small businesses again closed their doors, dealing a $150 million hit to the regional economy.
Missing out on valuable time
We missed more valuable time with family and friends. Weddings were cancelled. Loved ones were prevented from attending funerals. While New South Wales has put in place good contact tracing that means they can deal with isolated outbreaks, without the need for statewide lockdown, the Andrews Labor Government just can’t get the basics right.
Enough with the blame game
Every single Victorian is paying the price. Under Labor, hotel quarantine is a ticking time bomb allowing leak after leak and causing lockdown after lockdown. A new facility alone won’t fix old problems if the same people are in charge and the Andrews Labor Government must swallow their pride and implement the successful New South Wales model in Victoria. It’s time for the Andrews Labor Government to stop the blame game and be accountable for its mistakes in hotel quarantine.
