Kurnai College will be holding an information evening for Year 11 and 12 students on Wednesday, July 21 at Monash University Gippsland Campus from 7pm in lecture theatre 4N120. The new Gippsland Education Precinct, ‘Your Pathways Guide" CD will be launched at this event. The CD will assist students identify their pathway and courses that are available through GippsTAFE, Gippsland Group Training and Monash University Gippsland Campus.

‘The Politics of Portraiture’ is the title of the exhibition by Masters student, Victoria Dunn at the Monash University Gippsland Campus Switchback Gallery from July12-23. The works are the result of research completed while undertaking a Master of Fine Arts at the Gippsland Centre for Art and Design. Ms Dunn says of the work, "Portraiture is an important aspect of society’s articulation of itself. It verifies existence, and so doing, exemplifies social condition."

Andrew Dunning, Business & Economics Postgraduate student and sessional staff member presented a paper on decision making by salaried managers in small business at the ‘Small & Medium Enterprises in a Global Economy’ conference in Malaysia last week.

Making the Grade

Bachelor of Visual Arts students, Courtney Webb, Jessica Lawrence and Rebecca Van Der Werff will be undertaking their second semester studies in Prato, Italy. The third year students will be working and studying in the heart of Italian art and architecture making this, a unique hands on experience for these Gippsland Campus students. While in Italy the students will be studying concept and creativity along with the development of Italian art and design, with a major focus on individuals and cities that have made a profound impact on, and helped to shape, the cultural identity of Italy.

The Gippsland Research & Information Service report "What Price Wisdom" - A study of the Social and Economic Impact of an Ageing Population for the Bass Coast Shire was launched by Federal Member for Flinders, Greg Hunt MP last week. The report was in response to the challenges faced by Bass Coast, a fast growth and rapidly ageing population. Bass Coast saw the need to understand the economic and social impact of this situation and the effective planning required to meet the future needs of the Shire’s residences.

Primary Education students at the Gippsland Campus returned from their three week teaching stint in the Cook Islands. The students, in their third year of a four year degree course have been teaching at six primary schools and three secondary schools on the main island of Rarotongza.
