Mr Northe said "It was pleasing to see over 800 participants and 38 teams participating in this year’s event, including Northe’s Naughty Nats.

"More than 180 survivors and carers were honoured in the opening lap, the most ever," Mr Northe said.

"Latrobe Relay for Life was a wonderful opportunity for the community to pull together and raise in excess of $120,000 for the Cancer Council of Victoria in the fight against cancer. "The first lap of Relay honoured cancer survivors and carers. All participants gathered around the track to applaud the courage and strength shown by those completing the lap.

"It was a great opportunity for the community to pull together to celebrate with friends and family."

Mr Northe said "A candlelight ceremony was held at dusk as a time to remember and a time for hope.

"As dusk settled, candle tributes were lit for the candlelight ceremony to honour and support someone living with cancer or in memory of a loved one lost," Mr Northe said.

"After the relay concluded teams had the chance to celebrate there success of completing the overnight challenge and take part in the closing ceremony that celebrated achievements of the Relay." Mr Northe said "This year’s Relay for Life celebrated its 11th year and biggest ever, the event ran from 4pm Saturday 19 October until 10am Sunday 20 October.

"Well done to Greg Allan MC of the event and the team at TRFM and Gold 1242 for their assistance in promoting Relay for Life, with live broadcasting on the day and promotion in the lead up to the event," Mr Northe said.

"Congratulations must go to the team at Latrobe Smart Centre in Traralgon for raising in excess of $45,000 for this worthy cause.

"I commend all who participated in the event and for making it the most successful event to date."
