Traralgon Historical Society volunteers launch Community History Snap and Share preserving local heritage
Volunteers at Traralgon Historical Society create a project, supported by a grant, to photograph and digitally preserve Latrobe Valley's historical items, making them easily accessible to the community.
A project which makes it easier to share some of the Latrobe Valley's interesting heritage has been delivered by volunteers at Traralgon Historical Society. Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said a small grant for equipment purchases has made it possible for the volunteers to provide a valuable community resource. "Our region has a rich and diverse history which is contained in thousands of items, often stored in people's garages, sheds and spare bedrooms."

Preserving historical treasures
Mr Chester added, "It can be a treasure trove of information that is hard to access and difficult to preserve but the volunteers at Traralgon Historical Society are doing their best to improve the situation. "They are working on a 'Community History Snap and Share' project which involves photographing and providing a digital record of items that have an historical significance.
"It's an amazing collection of memorabilia and a small grant from the federal government has been used to purchase equipment which makes it all possible," Mr Chester said.
