The end of one year and the beginning of the next is traditionally a time to reflect upon the events that brought us to where we are today. In the turmoil that is today's internet, this kind of introspection seems especially appropriate.

What's even more interesting, though, is to muse about what the year gone by has taught us, and speculate about what kind of future it has been the prelude for.
