Gippsland › Latest news › Department of Sustainability and EnvironmentDSE Burns TodayFuel reduction burns totalling nearly 16000 hectares and regeneration burns totalling over 200 hectares are planned to commence across the region today and will progress over the next few days while the weather conditions remain suitable. By Department of Sustainability and Environment - 31st March 2005 - Back to News Swifts Creek and Ensay residents and visitors will see significant amounts of smoke in the air as many of today's large fuel reduction burns are in that area.
Another two large burns being ignited are a 3387 hectare burn at Moresford Road, 22 kilometres north west of Orbost near Raymond's Creek Falls and a 3609 hectare burn at Rich River Road, 21 kilometres north east of Orbost.
There will also be burns conducted 15 kilometres north west of Erica, at Rojoes Road, 12 kilometres west of Buchan at Timbarra River, 34 kilometres north west of Orbost at Varney's Track near Jackson's Crossing and 27 kilometres north east of Yarram at Four Mile Creek.
Just north of Briagolong at Sounding Gap in the Culloden area, there will be a 725 hectare fuel reduction burn commencing at lunchtime.
Local CFA crews will be assisting with some of these burning operations.
