By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th October 2007 - Back to News

The awards are organised by Bass Coast Shire Council, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Lombard the Paper People as part of the Shire’s celebration of the 2007 GMC Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

A Best Dressed Business Presentation took place on Tuesday 9 October at the Cowes Cultural Centre.

A record 50 businesses, from all corners of the Shire, participated in the competition to display the best Grand Prix decorations. This year requests to participate exceeded the number of entries allowed.

Once again, all the businesses that took part in this year’s competition received a prize. The top twenty businesses received two Sunday general admission tickets to the Grand Prix, with the remaining businesses receiving two Saturday general admission tickets.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin, said it was marvellous to see so many businesses participating.

"It creates a wonderful atmosphere for those visiting our Shire for the Grand Prix," he said proudly.

The Top 5 winners are:

  • Island Quality Meats and Seafood, Cowes
  • Westpac Bank, Wonthaggi
  • Baker’s Delight, Cowes
  • O’Donnell Optical, Wonthaggi
  • Tropical Zone Flowers, Cowes

Westpac Bank, O’Donnell Optical and Tropical Zone Flowers are all previous award winners. The top five award winners also received a framed Moto GP poster, a certificate of recognition and an invitation to the 2007 Grand Prix Official Welcome.

Although not a part of the competition, Ellis Newsagency, Cowes was recognised for their initiative in creating an exciting and vibrant window to add to the GP atmosphere.
