Slide To Be Named On SundayBairnsdale’s newest attraction for kids, the Giant Slide in Howitt Park on the east side of the Mitchell River, will be officially opened and named this Sunday at 11.00 am. By East Gippland Shire Council - 29th November 2004 - Back to News The name – chosen from hundreds of entries received in a "Name the Slide Competition - will be announced by East Gippsland Shire Council’s Mayor, Harvey Bates.
Primary school children were invited to submit names for the slide through the Council’s website and the response has been described as "overwhelming."
Six finalists will be among the large crowd of kids expected to attend the opening. The winner of the contest will take the first ‘official’ slide, followed then by the other finalists. Other youngsters will then be invited to try it out.
The 16.8 metre yellow slide cost $40,000 and is expected to become one of the region’s biggest attractions for youngsters.
