Aleppo Pine ReplantedAn Aleppo pine has been replanted in Victory Park, Traralgon to replace the specimen that was damaged by vandals last month. By news@gippsland - 5th April 2012 - Back to News Latrobe City councillor, Dale Harriman, said that he was delighted that a new tree had been sourced so quickly.
"In the lead up to ANZAC Day commemorations at the end of this month, it was particularly important to the returned service personnel of Latrobe City that the Aleppo pine was replanted here. A pine has stood on this spot since 1967 and the tree has an iconic association with the ANZAC story.
"Being able to get hold of a new specimen at such short notice has really lifted our spirits and to see the tree back in its rightful place is fitting," Cr Harriman said.
The tree was sourced through Latrobe City’s parks and gardens team and was replanted by Cr Harriman, and Jim Saddington, president of the Traralgon RSL.
