Gippsland Water Dragons get $7,500 to encourage local youth to try dragon boating, through a successful VicHealth JumpStart! funding application.
Gippsland Water Dragons will receive $7,500 to deliver a community-led initiative to promote dragon boating to local youth. The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien says the funding is being provided after the Gippsland Water Dragons made a successful application to VicHealth's recent JumpStart! funding round. The Gippsland Water Dragons will use the grant to run a series of come-and-try days encouraging young people to get involved in dragon boating.

Mr O'Brien said he was fortunate to attend a training session for the Gippsland Water Dragons recently and was thrilled to see people of all ages and fitness levels enjoying a great outdoor activity. "The Gippsland Water Dragons are proving that dragon boating really is for everyone."
"It's great to see an activity where everyone can come together and have a great time while getting outdoors and staying active. Local initiatives like these are a great way of building and improving social connections within our local communities." Mr O'Brien said.
Mr O'Brien said VicHealth's JumpStart! grants are currently closed to new applications, but new funding rounds and streams are expected to open later in the year.
