Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Peter Paul, said it was wonderful to see so many adults, children, families and friends of the four and two legged variety out in force last Sunday.

"The Pet Expo is about encourgaing responsible pet ownership so it’s great to see so many people caring for their pets, whether they be cat, dog, lizard, ferret, rabbit or guinea pig," said Cr Paul.

"Visitors watched a variety of dog demonstrations by the Wonthaggi Dog Obedience Club, browsed through the stalls and listened to an informative talk on responsible pet ownership.

"Children were happy to receive a balloon and show bag from our visiting ‘Daggy the Dog’ and ‘Cuddles the Cat’.

"The annual Pet Show, which is a favourite for many, showcased over 50 pets including snakes, baby guinea pigs, lizards, cats and dogs."

Pet Show prizes were awarded in the following categories:

  • Most Adorable Cat: Alice Ward and cat
  • Most Adorable Dog: Olivia Turner and dog (Halo)
  • Most Interesting Pet other than Cat or Dog: Holly Egan and Russell
  • Most Interesting Cat: Eliza Berry and cat (Paris)
  • Most Interesting Dog: Faith Turnbull and dog (Charlee)
  • Best Dressed Pet: Darrien Burrell and WIllow
  • Mayors Award: Natalie Gullace and Jessy’s babies
  • Judges Award: Ryleigh Wilkinson and Chloe

Cr Paul said he was pleased to see people taking advantage of the discount micro-chipping offer on the day.

"All dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered and micro-chipped," reminded Cr Paul.

"Our Shire now has 54 more pets who will be able to be returned to their home quickly and easily if they get lost. This is a great result.

"I would like to congratulate Council staff, in particular the Community Safety team, who did a wonderful job in the lead up and on the day, to make sure the Expo ran smoothly," continued Cr Paul.

"The success of this year’s event ensures it will be a highlight of next year’s events calendar too."
