Dpi Ellinbank Open Day: 6 June

The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Ellinbank will throw open its doors on Wednesday, 6 June, giving farmers and the community a chance to tour a world class science facility and learn what’s happening down on its research farm.

There will be a free BBQ and Centre Manager, Des Williams, will open the event that will run from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm at Hazeldean Road, Ellinbank.

Visitors to Ellinbank will be able to:

  • See soils & Water Laboratory
  • See the Animal Research Complex - housing the only whole cow calorimeters in the Southern Hemisphere;
  • Take a farm walk along Bear Creek; and
  • Watch the afternoon milking in the modern research and commercial dairy.

The afternoon program will showcase Ellinbank’s latest pasture allocation invention along with greenhouse, dairy and nutrient management, pest plants and pest animals, Landcare, environmental topics, and many other projects.

Special guest speaker, Professor Jock McMillan from The University of Melbourne, will present a session on the latest research findings from the Extended Lactation (EL) project alongside the EL herd.

CowTime’s Darold Klindworth, will be speaking in the dairy and offering practical advice and highlights from this high profile and successful national program.

The DPI Ellinbank Open Day is part of the 2007 Victorian Dairy Conference 'My Future, My Business' being held on 7-8 June 2007.
