Accessible Information For All At Bass Coast

Annual information handouts are now available on audiocassette

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 23rd July 2002 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s annual information booklet, community newsletter and homecare information are now available on audiocassette.

"Council is endevouring to ensure that people with vision, mobility, hearing and speech difficulties have access to Council information," said Cr John Gains, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.

"The audiocassettes are available free to residents and ratepayers who may have difficulty accessing the information otherwise," he said.

The information booklet is also available in large print. The next edition of Council’s community newsletter will also be available in large print.

People are also able to access Council information via email, on computer disk or on Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au

People with hearing difficulties can also keep in touch with Council by using the TTY Telephone numbers, which are (03) 5671 2256 or (03) 5951 3356.

Residents who would like to receive information in an alternate format should contact Council. Residents can elect to have their details put on a mailing list so that audiocassette and large print copies of Council information are automatically sent as soon as they are available.

"Council recognises that people with disabilities have the same fundamental rights as all members of the community," said Cr Gains. "Council’s Disability Action Plan is designed to ensure that Council services and communications are accessible to all."
