Minister Talks Multicultural Affairs In MorwellMinister for Multicultural Affairs Nick Kotsiras was in Morwell this week to generate interest in the new state-wide Regional Advisory Councils and to discuss funding available for local multicultural groups. By Russel Northe - 12th September 2011 - Back to News Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the Minister’s talk at the Strengthening Our Community session in Morwell on Thursday provided details on the new state-wide multicultural Regional Advisory Council as well as highlighting government grants available to local groups.
"The Minister outlined his vision for the multicultural affairs portfolio and encouraged all our local representatives present to consider nomination for the Regional Advisory Councils," Mr Northe said.
"Mr Kotsiras also sought feedback about the structure and criteria around existing funding and grants programs."
The Strengthening Our Community session held at the Italian Australian Club in Morwell was well attended by a number of representatives from a diverse range of multicultural groups.
Mr Northe said the Minister’s visit was a good opportunity for local organisations and groups to find out details about grants and funding currently available.
"I was pleased to see great interest in the multicultural Regional Advisory Councils and I hope that people from the Morwell electorate nominate to become a member of the Gippsland council to ensure their interests are represented," Mr Northe said.
For more information on the nomination process call the Victorian Multicultural Commission on (03) 9651 0651, email rac@vmc.vic.gov.au or visit www.multicultural.vic.gov.au
Meanwhile Mr Northe reminded those in the Latrobe Valley they have less than two weeks left to nominate for this year’s Multicultural Awards for Excellence.
"The awards are an opportunity for communities to recognise and reward the individuals and organisations that contribute so much to multiculturalism in our state," Mr Northe said.
"I encourage you to nominate a friend, family member, colleague or organisation that you believe deserves to be rewarded for their efforts."
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 16 September.
