Mike Larkin, Weatherman with Channel 10, will be the Australia Day Ambassador at celebrations in Wonthaggi on Saturday 26 January 2002.

The celebrations will take place at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre and start at 7.30 with a free breakfast.

Official proceedings begin at 9:00am and include entertainment from the Australia Day Choir, a flag raising ceremony, an address from Mike Larkin, citizenship ceremony and presentation of the Bass Coast Australia Day Awards and the Rotary Australia Day Award.

"Come along and enjoy a great morning of entertainment," said Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.

"Council received many nominations for all categories in the 2002 Bass Coast Australia Day Awards," said Cr Sage. "The Australia Day Committee had quite a difficult time deciding on a winner in each category."

"In his role as Australia Day Ambassador, Mike Larkin will announce the winners and present the awards on the day," said Cr Sage.

Mike Larkin is well known for his entertaining, informative and often humourous weather segment each evening on Channel 10. He has many years’ experience as a journalist and presenter with several radio and television stations.

The Mayor will make presentations to the captains of the local fire brigades whose members recently helped battle the bushfires in NSW.

Australia Day Activities in Wonthaggi are proudly presented by the Rotary Club of Wonthaggi and Bass Coast Shire Council.
