Business and Economics is holding its annual student awards and cocktail evening on Tuesday 4 May in the Edison Mission Conference Room at the Gippsland Campus. Forty four prizes will be awarded to thirty-five recipients from twenty-five sponsoring companies. The Vice Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Richard Larkins and Professor Jill Palmer, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics will be special guests at the event.

Monash University Gippsland Campus will be part of the ‘Innovation Festival’ being run by the Latrobe City from May 5-21. The Festival is an opportunity to showcase exciting things happening in the region and the Gippsland Campus will be involved with presentations in Cognitive Science, Switchback Gallery exhibition, Institute for Regional Studies and GREEN Inc.

The International Students Association at the Gippsland Campus will be holding its annual Cultural Night on Thursday, May 6 at the Premiere Function Room with a dinner and international cultural performances.

‘Co-respond’, the latest exhibition to be opened at the Switchback Gallery on May 12, is a collaborative project by Mark McDean and Laurene Vaughan. The exhibition is a ‘visual conversation’ between the two artists on how they understand and explore the diverse aspects of their work. An artist’s floor talk will be presented as part of this exhibition at 5.30pm on Tuesday, May 11.

Monash University and the Faculty of Business are sponsoring the Federation Health Gippsland Business Awards on May 7. As well as receiving $1000, the top local team from Young Achievers Australia will be presented with a full HECS scholarship for one year’s fees to study Business and Economics at the Gippsland Campus.

• Making the Grade

Professor Karen Francis was invited to be keynote speaker at a nursing and medicine conference in New Zealand earlier in April. The Professor of Rural Health had the opportunity to talk about the shortage of rural health professionals in Australia and outline some of her recommended strategies to deal with it. Professor Francis took a similar message to Federal politicians and ministers in Canberra the previous week.

Classical guitarist, Ken Murray will play musical homages to Australian and Spanish composers including Albeniz, Granados, Sainz de la Maz and Paul Stanhope at the free lunchtime concert at the Gippsland Campus, Monday, May 3 from 1pm in the Hexagon.
