Sunset Strip Paths Increase

Sunset Strip pedestrians and cyclists will soon experience a smoother journey on new pathways.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 19th March 2009 - Back to News

Work will begin from Monday 16 March on the Sunset Strip Shared Pathway project which will run from the intersection of Back Beach Road and Phillip Island Road through to Amaze N Things.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Projects Manager, Felicity Sist, said the pathway was an extension of the shared pathway that currently runs from Newhaven through to Sunset Strip.

"The project is part of our capital works program and VicRoads and Council are jointly funding the project," explained Ms Sist.

"The new pathways will help us bridge the gaps in the existing path network on Phillip Island."

New reinforced concrete paths and pedestrian refuge islands will be installed as part of the project. Minor drainage works will also be undertaken.

"The total cost of the project is $446,500 and it will take several months to complete," explained Ms Sist.

"Every effort will be made to keep inconvenience to residents to a minimum. Hopefully by mid May, there will be a new pathway for everyone to use and enjoy.

"The pathway will begin at the proposed pedestrian refuge at the intersection of Back Beach and Phillip Island Roads, run alongside the roadway and then cross over the service road at Panorama Drive," explained Ms Sist.

"It will run the entire length of the service road and cross into the public reserve before heading back to the road to connect with a proposed pedestrian refuge past the Adventure Resort and Amaze N Things."
