High-Speed Regional RailPeter Walsh's letter to the editor. By Portal Admin - 22nd October 2018 - Back to News Dear Editor,
Better regional rail will bring our country communities closer together and closer to more jobs, as well as specialist medical services, TAFEs and universities.
Victoria’s rail network is a critical link for country Victorians, but the current network is tired, unreliable and slow.
It’s one of the biggest barriers to growing Regional Victoria, which is why an elected Liberal Nationals Government will transform the regional rail network.
We’ll upgrade every train line building high-speed rail and fast rail across the network, slashing travel times for country passengers and return passenger rail to Mildura, Horsham, Hamilton and Donald.
In our first term of government, we’ll buy new-generation long haul rolling stock for country lines so we can travel on reliable, fast and comfortable trains.
The Federal Liberal Nationals Government have led the way in working to better country rail, investing $1.6 billion of the $1.75 billion Regional Rail Revival.
Meanwhile, city-centric Labor refuses to look beyond Melbourne’s tram tracks.
Better regional rail will help to decentralise our state, connecting people with more jobs, education and healthcare and making it easier to live in one town and work in another.
