The San Remo Pharmacy has won the Qantas Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix Bass Coast Best Dressed Business Competition for the second consecutive year. Pinos Trattoria was awarded second place, with Waterfront Computers placing third. Island Style and Phillip Island Nature Park both received special commendations. "It was very difficult to pick winners because of the high standard of entries across the Shire," said Cr John Gains from Bass Coast Shire Council. Cr Gains judged the event along with David Atkins from the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Fergus Cameron from Phillip Island Motor Sports. More than 30 local businesses entered the competition to decorate their business in a way that reflects the excitement and thrills of the 2001 Qantas Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The competition is supported by Bass Coast Shire Council, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Lombard the Paper People. "It was great to see businesses incorporating their products into their Grand Prix themed displays," said Cr Gains. "The traders have really got into the racing spirit and gone to a lot of effort to create a welcoming atmosphere for all the visitors we’re expecting during the Grand Prix." First place winner, the San Remo Pharmacy, has displays throughout the store, many incorporating the top selling Grand Prix weekend products such as ear-plugs, film and Berrocca. The Pharmacy received two three-day VIP hospitality passes to the High Octane Club during the Grand Prix and two Grand Prix Gala Ball Tickets for their first prize effort. Pinos Trattoria also has displays throughout the restaurant, including a model dressed in racing gear and a Moped. As second place winners, Pinos was awarded two three-day Grandstand passes to the event. Third place winners, Waterfront Computers, have diagrams of all the world’s motor racing circuits in their window, including the Phillip Island Circuit. They’ll be able to take a closer look at the local Circuit with their prize of two three-day family passes to the Grand Prix. Penguins racing motorcycles are featured in the Phillip Island Nature Park display that received a special commendation. Island Style’s display included a Grand Prix style bikini. As highly commended entries, the Nature Park and Island Style each received a Sunday general admission pass to the Grand Prix. Awards were presented at the Council meeting on 3 October.
