"Corruption: An Obstacle to Socio-Economic Development in the Third World" will be presented by Gerald Acquaah-Gaisie at the Business & Economics Academic Exchange Forum on Wednesday, October 5 in the BusEco Conference Room at 1pm.

Twenty doctors and 20 nurses have just returned from a cultural immersion program organised by the Monash University Centre for Rural Health. The doctors and nurses spent seven days in the Flinders Ranges.

Dr Wendy Wright, Ms Narelle Weston and Ms Josephine Machunter from the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering presented a paper and poster at the Birds Australia Annual Congress 2005 at Latrobe University, Bendigo on October 1 and 2. The congress dealt with birds in a changing environment and challenges for conservation in the 21st century.

• Making the Grade

Ms Kate Spencer started in her new role as Prospective Student and Co-operative Education Co-ordinator at the Gippsland Campus last week. Kate will be responsible for liaison with secondary schools, Open Day and the co-ordination of the newly introduced Co-operative Education Program.

The final Gippsland Campus Graduation Ceremony for 2005 will be held on Saturday, October 8 with students representing all Faculties at the Campus. Approximately 120 graduands and their family and friends will be attending the ceremony to be held in the Binishell at 11am. The Occasional Address will be delivered by journalist, author, critic and honorary graduand, Beatrice Faust.

Professor Sam Adeloju, Head, Gippsland School of Applied Sciences and Engineering at the Gippsland Campus has recently been invited to join a Monash special working party on Brown Coal Research, membership of the Review Panel of the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash Clayton and membership of the International Association of Nanotechnology (IANT).

Associate Professor Tony Barnett was recently appointed to the East Gippsland TAFE Council and is working towards stronger ties and pathways to Monash with the East Gippsland community.

Access Education will once again be holding their VCE Units 3 & 4 end of year exam revision program at the Gippsland Campus on October 15 and 16. Subjects to be covered are Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Legal Studies, Food & Technology, Business Management, Specialist Maths and English.
