Tidy Bass Coast Under The Spotlight

Bass Coast will be under the spotlight when the Keep Australia Beautiful competition come to town!

By Bass Coast - 11th July 2011 - Back to News

On Tuesday, 12 July, the Keep Australia Beautiful judge will meet Bass Coast Shire Council officers to inspect the work being done to protect and enhance our local environment.

Waste Manager, David Owen, said a public recycling campaign was the focus of Council’s entry in the competition.

"Through this campaign we rolled out 70 new public place recycling bins across the towns in Bass Coast," said Mr Owen.

The new bins mean items like cans and bottles can now be separated from general rubbish. Waste Education officer, Freya Sibly said: "We estimate that the new public recycling bins will divert 250 tons of recyclable material from landfill every year.

"Recycling bins are now available in the business areas of Cowes, Wonthaggi, Newhaven, San Remo, Cape Paterson, Cape Woolamai, Inverloch and Grantville."

Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria sends its judges out into regional Victoria to confirm the State’s tidiest towns.

The 2010 winner of the Tidy Town of the Year award for Victoria was Rutherglen. This year’s winners of the KABV Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Awards will be announced in Rutherglen on Saturday, 22 October 2011.
