Gippsland › Latest news › Department of Sustainability and EnvironmentLandcare Goes High TechLimited computer skills should be no barrier to Victoria’s 700 Landcare groups sharing their knowledge and experience online, thanks to the new Victorian Landcare Gateway website, www.landcare.net.au. By Department of Sustainability and Environment - 15th October 2004 - Back to News The Landcare Gateway was funded by the Department of Sustainability and Environment and fulfils a key action identified in the Victorian Action Plan for Second Generation Landcare.
The Statewide Landcare Co-ordinator, Mark Costello, today unveiled the Landcare Gateway, which comprises a statewide website linked to ten regional sites.
Each site uses systems to allow simple online access to a wide range of information on Landcare and related community groups both locally and statewide.
"A key aspect of the Gateway is the ability of Landcare Groups to be able to manage their own online content and discussions with minimal web skills," he said.
"As well as supporting the important work Landcare undertakes, this website will help raise and expand the profile of the Landcare movement, and show all Victorians why thousands of people give up so much of their time for the cause," he said.
"I would encourage all Landcare and community members to visit the Landcare Gateway, and to use this resource for accessing and sharing knowledge across the community," he said.
Mr Costello said that the website supports Landcare’s aim of linking sustainable farming with Landcare and encouraging the whole community to get involved.
"Our vision is one of healthy landscapes and sustainable communities achieved through a vibrant Landcare movement founded on durable partnerships that strengthen communities through local actions," he said.
Mr Costello said the Landcare Gateway has been expanded from a site developed initially by the North East Catchment Management Authority for Landcare groups in that region.
The Landcare Gateway is hosted by NetC Cooperative, Australia’s first not-for-profit telecommunications cooperative, committed to increasing community access to online services.
