The new Howitt Park playground slide of course! East Gippsland Mayor Harvey Bates this week announced a giant new hill slide would replace the playground’s dilapidated old long wave slide, which had to be closed in May due to risk management issues. Cr Bates said the new slide was bound to be a big hit with East Gippsland families and also with tourists passing through the town. "It is a state-of-the-art slide and comes complete with windows on the side and includes a steel deck launch platform with safety rails," Cr Bates said. "It looks like so much fun, I might have to have a go myself!" Cr Bates said the new slide complied with Australian Standards for playground equipment. "The slide will be installed by Omnitech and Council staff will pour the concrete pad once it has been erected. The concrete area and the staircase will then be covered with 50mm of thick black rubber wet pour. "It is wonderful news for local families, whom I know were disappointed when the old slide had to be closed." Cr Bates said the Council’s Footpath Maintenance Crew and playground inspector would remove the old slide in the next few weeks.
