Mark the Calendar

May 15 – Opening of The Weight of History at Switchback Gallery. In collaboration with Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) the gallery presents an exhibition which explores the play of the past in the present. Referencing the obscure and forgotten, the iconic and the momentous, this exhibition examines the life of history in contemporary culture. The exhibition features works by major Australian historical and contemporary artists including Peter Kennedy, Ian Howard, Helga Groves and Leah King-Smith and is current until June 22.

May 17 - School of Business and Economics Academic Exchange Forum. The nature of the global marketing environment combined with new inter-relationships between firms, is forcing the need to use multidisciplinary approaches to better understand, analyse and improve business performance. The paper, titled Stakeholder-based clusters and competitive advantage, provides insight for business strategy by considering new units of marketing derived from collaborative inter-relationships, drawing on stakeholder theory, the resource-based view of the firm (RBV) and the notion of competitive advantage. The forum will be presented by Professor Val Clulow.

Making the Grade

Co-operative Education students at Monash Gippsland are highly organised and motivated. Participants undertake a full-time work placement in their final year of study, often while completing subjects separate from the Program. Program participant Kristen Brehaut is currently undertaking work placement with the Marketing Department at Monash University Gippsland, where she works full time as a regular employee. In addition, she is completing subjects through off campus learning, writing for an English girls magazine and volunteering in a community organisation. In the future, Kristen hopes to become a magazine journalist and use her experience to help market the magazine.
