Big Screen Touring Australian Films

Special guests, Samuel Johnson and Terry Donovan, in Briagolong and Sale for weekend festival of Australian films.

Big Screen Touring Film Festival is delighted to be able to present two high profile film industry guests at the Briagolong festival in April.

The Opening Night Gala presentation will include a screening of The Illustrated Family Doctor accompanied by its star Samuel Johnson. Samuel is known across Australia for his character Evan in the television hit series, The Secret Life Of Us. The second special guest is one of the pillars of Australian film and television – Terry Donovan. Terry has starred in series such as Cop Shop and Division 4 as well as in some of Australia’s most representative films, including the two screenings that Terry will attend at the festival, The Man From Snowy River and Breaker Morant.

The Big Screen Festival of Australian films has been touring regional locations Australia wide celebrating the achievements of the Australian film industry since 2001. In this time it has presented 75 festivals and screened films to an audience well in excess of 85,000 people. In April it will be visiting the Gippsland area in Victoria presenting a program of contemporary Australian films, award winning shorts, free school screenings and retrospectives.

The Festival will open at Briagolong, Friday 22 April, at 7pm with The Illustrated Family Doctor from award winning director Kriv Stenders. The opening night film will be supported by the 2005 Animation Oscar Nominee Birthday Boy. One Hour later at 8pm at the Wellington Entertainment Centre Big Screen will present the world premiere of local award winning filmmaker Justin Sisely’s latest film Sunset to Sunrise.

"I’m very excited by this opportunity" says Festival Director Peter Castaldi. "This offers us a unique opportunity to showcase a local filmmaker and to be able to screen two films in different venues on the same evening. Wellington Shire has certainly offered BIG SCREEN a unique event"

The Festival prides itself on offering films for all the family and includes free screenings of Storm Boy and Romeo + Juliet for the schools, as well as the "Gems From The Archive" program on Sunday. In partnership with the Shakespeare Festival Big Screen will also offer a public Screening of Romeo + Juliet at the Sale Cinemas on Monday the 25th of April. For those with small children who don’t often have the chance to get to the movies, there is a Big Screen BUB’s Club screening of the classic Dot and the Kangaroo on Saturday morning at The Mechanics Institute at 10.30 am - Mum & Dad FREE with kids $5.50. In addition, there will be a screening of the hugely popular, multi award winning film Somersault.
