By Owen Polanski - 21st May 2007 - Back to News Planning for the 2007 Alpine Rally is well advanced and with almost 80 expressions of interest already received from competitors, this year’s event is set to be one of the biggest and best ever.
The weekend of November 24 & 25 will see Lakes Entrance play host to 100 of the best classic and 2 wheel drive rally cars and crews in Australia as they compete over arguably some of the best rally roads this country has to offer. There will be 380 km of competitive stages including an awesome 35km stage on bitumen.
Spectators will once again be treated to a host of exciting vantage points including 1 point within 5 minutes of the start/finish location at Kalimna and some new, never before used points that should keep the excitement flowing all weekend.
Victorian rally icon, Stuart Lister has once again agreed to oversee the event in the new position of Chairman with experienced East Gippsland local Andrew Roberts again filling the all important position of Road Director. There is also a host of experienced and enthusiastic people already in place to look after the huge task of making the ‘Alpine Magic’ come alive.
With the support of many communities in East Gippsland the Alpine Rally will also help to showcase the region which was badly affected by bushfires last summer but is now ‘Open for Business’ and keen to show what a fantastic destination it is. Accommodation is being handled by the East Gippsland Visitor Centre and can be organised by calling 1800 637 080 or visiting www.lakesandwilderness.com.au
If you are intending to compete you better be quick. Download the expression of interest from either www.alpinerally.org.au or the HRA website www.hra.org.au and get them back to us ASAP as places are filling fast and we would hate to see you miss out on experiencing some ‘Alpine Magic’.
