Two Uncontained Sections of Fire Remaining

Thunderstorms moved south on Saturday with heavy showers and light snow in Alpine areas

By DSE/CFA - 3rd March 2003 - Back to News

The Bogong Complex (south) Fires

Thunderstorms moved south on Saturday with heavy showers and light snow in Alpine areas. Between 5 and 10mm of rain fell over most of the fire over the weekend.

In the remaining two uncontained sections of the fire, in the north west and the far east, fire activity is quiet due to the recent rain.

Overall, 95 per cent of the fire’s edge is now contained, but there are still issues with the area to the south of Mount Buffalo and in the Snowy River National Park. Mop up and patrol works will continue for the next few weeks.

Other work is now concentrated on cleaning up and rehabilitation for both public and private land and on recovery programs for landholders affected by these devastating fires.

The fire is now being managed by local fire management officers and is being resourced by Gippsland crews. All visiting crews have returned to their home bases.

This is the final Community Update for the Bogong Complex fire situation.
