Strategic community support

Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe said it was important for council to have a considered and consistent approach to understanding and meeting the needs of our diverse and evolving community. "As a council we continuously strive to foster local opportunities for community connection, celebration and recognition throughout the year. This policy will ensure a strategic approach to council's selection and resourcing of these special dates and occasions to achieve the best outcomes for our community."

Potential dates and occasions of significance to be supported by council will be assessed in a measured, transparent and inclusive way ensuring those selected reflect the resourcing available and importance to the community.

Community events support

Council will receive a final calendar of dates and occasions of significance for endorsement in early 2025. Following endorsement, new proposals may be submitted to council throughout the year except during the assessment period via council's website, with assessments taking place between the first Monday and last Friday of August each year.

Council continues to encourage and support our community to develop, facilitate and lead community events and initiatives that enable the community to connect, celebrate and foster local pride. Community led events and initiatives are an important part of Baw Baw Shire and allow the community to take ownership of the creation of healthy, thriving and sustainable communities.

The policy has been developed with consideration to community feedback and consultation which took place in May of 2024. To see the full policy, visit Baw Baw Shire Council website.
