Daniel Andrews questioned over Ambulance Victoria’s closure in MorwellDaniel Andrews appeared unaware of his own Government’s plans to relocate Ambulance Victoria’s Regional Headquarters away from Morwell when asked in Parliament this week. By Portal Admin - 15th November 2016 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe asked the Premier why they were spruiking opportunities to relocate government departments to Morwell, while at the same time making plans to close one down.
"It seems Daniel Andrews' own Government have kept him in the dark on plans to relocate the Ambulance Victoria Regional Headquarters outside of Morwell," Mr Northe said.
"The matter was raised with me by members of the Latrobe Valley community, who told me the headquarters would be closed and relocated to Warragul with some staff already transferred to other locations in previous months.
"It was clear from the Premier’s response he had no idea of these plans or how many staff had already been taken away from the Morwell office.
The questions forced a hasty backflip from the Andrews Labor Government.
"Disgracefully, Daniel Andrews later followed up by accusing the Latrobe Valley people, who asked me to raise the relocation in parliament, of peddling lies," Mr Northe said.
"It was only through their choice to take a stand that we have now seen Labor backflip on this underhanded attempt to send more jobs away from Morwell and instead finally commit to the Headquarters remaining in the town."
Mr Northe said the Premier continually claimed he would fight for every job, but it did not appear to apply to Latrobe Valley workers.
"It’s appalling this Government now seeks to close one of its own agencies in Morwell when unemployment has skyrocketed over the past two years," Mr Northe said.
"It is time Daniel Andrews put people ahead of politics."
