Fire In Forest North Of Briagolong

DSE and CFA fire crews were called to a fire in state forest 24 kilometres north of Briagolong yesterday afternoon.

By DSE - 4th October 2006 - Back to News

The fire burned four hectares before being contained and crews are now working on blacking out the area.

DSE investigators have confirmed that the fire was started from an escaped campfire.

DSE Incident Controller, Terry Stephenson said that this was an early reminder to the public to be extra cautious when lighting campfires in our forests and parks.

"We urge people to take care when camping in the bush and make sure that they never leave their campfires unattended and that the fire is cool to touch and safe to leave before they go."

"With the warm start to spring and below average rainfall, the forest is very dry and flammable, so everyone needs to be vigilant to ensure that campfires don’t escape and endanger our bushland and our communities," Mr Stephenson said.
