As part of the Innovation Festival, the Monash Regional Centre for Information Communication Technology (MRCICT) will be holding a ‘Monash Gippsland Inventors Competition’ on Sunday, May 15 from 9.30am-4pm in the Binishell at the Gippsland Campus. This competition is open to all residents of Gippsland. Judging will take place at a family day event at Monash’s Gippsland Campus. Australian Sustainable Industry Research Centre (ASIRC) at the Gippsland Campus will be showcasing its involvement in the development and evaluation of technologies which can be commercialised through an interactive display at the Baw Baw Shire Council Civic Centre, Warragul on Wednesday, April 27 from 10.30am -5pm. ‘Transcript’ is the title of the exhibition which will open at Monash University Gippsland Campus Switchback Gallery on Tuesday, April 12 at 5pm. Melbourne based painter Tim Craker explores the English alphabet in this series of font and text based works on canvas.

‘Uni Student for a Day’, an initiative of Marketing & Public Affairs at the Gippsland Campus, will be held April 5, 6 and 7. Year 12 students will buddy up with current university students at the Gippsland Campus for one of the three days. The university and secondary student will attend lecturers, tutorials and get a real understanding of what university is like. More than 70 university students volunteered to host secondary students.

Making the Grade

The 2004 Patrons Awards for Bachelor of Visual Arts students at the Gippsland Campus will be presented at a ceremony in the Switchback Gallery on Tuesday, April 5. First year encouragement awards went to James Norman and Maria-Luisa Marino, second year excellence award went to David Wakefield and a third year excellence award was awarded to Jess Lawrence and Sheena Jones. Each student received a cheque for $200. Jess Lawrence also recently received the $500 ANZ Award of Excellence for overall achievement and excellence.

Mereana Barrett, Department of Accounting & Finance at the Gippsland Campus will be presenting a paper at the Critical Accounting Issues conference in New York this month.

Julie Adams, Head, Gippsland Centre for Art and Design at the Gippsland Campus was recently elected Chair of the Latrobe Regional Gallery Advisory Committee for 2005.
