Working Towards Cowes Children’S Hub

The first meeting of the Cowes Children’s Hub working party was held in Cowes, on Wednesday 24 January.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 9th February 2007 - Back to News

The aim of the working party is to investigate the range of options for providing children’s services in Cowes.

The working party is made up of representatives from the local school, kindergarten, community centre, Council officers and Cr Peter Paul, the Councillor for Thompson Ward on Phillip Island.

Sally Paech, Project Facilitator for Bass Coast Shire Council said the members of the working party were extremely excited about the project.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the Phillip Island community and the project has Council’s full support," said Ms Paech.

"Obviously we want to be able to provide a best practice service that is responsive to the needs of this community.

Ms Paech said the working party has invited a children’s services expert, Kathy Walker, to assist in working closely with the local community, as well as exploring a broad range of options for the proposed children’s hub.

"We look forward to meeting members of the community, parents and professionals over the next six months," said Ms Paech.

"We want to hear from you and share with you the needs, options and directions for children and families in Cowes."

"In addition to this local input, we have access to global initiatives, international and national research and studies that can help guide our decisions," Ms Paech continued.

"This will help us make decisions based not just upon what is best for the next couple of years, but what will provide the best options for the Cowes community over the coming decades.

Members of the community wanting to provide any information or to ask any questions about the working group should contact Sally Paech, Project Facilitator – Preschools at Bass Coast Shire Council. Phone: 03 5671 2748 or email s.paech@basscoast.vic.gov.au
