Professor Simon Marginson, Director, Monash Centre for Research in International Education in the Faculty of Education will present the Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences research seminar on Thursday, May 5 at 2.30pm. Professor Marginson will talk on the economic failure of the global e-university projects, and the constraints and prospects of contemporary online and distance delivery of higher education across borders.

‘Koala Management’ is the title of the School of Applied Science and Engineering Seminar to be held at the Gippsland Campus on Wednesday, May 18 from 1-2pm.

Peter Menkhorst from the Department of Sustainability and Environment will speak on aspects of koala management including the disease problem in some populations, habitat pressures and the present and future options for management of koala populations.

The Gippsland Regional Health Research Initiative (GRHRI) inaugural workshop was held last week for those interested in public health, health issues, needs and delivery in Gippsland and rural regions. Speakers covered topics from clinical trials, nursing & midwifery, adolescent depression, the mental health status in rural Australia, healthy ageing, collaborative projects in disability health issues, community wellbeing and sport and outdoor recreation research. Keynote speaker was Claire Caesar who discussed targeting funding from the Department of Health and Ageing.

Making the Grade

The Business & Economics Awards Night, ‘Celebration of Achievement’ will be held at the Gippsland Campus on Tuesday, May 3. On the night 36 students will receive 44 awards and prizes from 24 sponsors throughout the Gippsland region. A number of students received multiple prizes and awards. Professor Stephen Parker, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor will be giving the opening address and Professor Max King, Deputy Dean Director Research Graduate School will be closing the evening.

Churchill Police, Bronwyn Drake and Peter Warren from Monash University will be meeting with students and staff, both international and Australian who live on and off campus, to provide strategies on increasing their sense of personal safety. The safety seminar will be held on Thursday, May 12.
