Sound of CyclesTraditionally we think of December as a time for festive celebrations and the imminent arrival of Santa; however this year it also heralds the arrival of thousands of cyclists. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 23rd November 2012 - Back to News The Great Victorian Bike Ride arrives in Bass Coast on 1 December, with over 4,000 cyclists and their support teams pedalling along our roads, across our hills and coming through many of our towns. The Ride stops overnight in San Remo on Saturday, 1 December, before finishing up at the Penguin Parade on Sunday afternoon.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane, said the Great Victorian Bike Ride brought an estimated $250,000 benefit to the local economy

The Great Victorian Bike Ride is managed by Bicycle Network Victoria, a non profit organisation which fosters cycling activities around the state. A nine day camping ride around regional Victoria, it is the biggest event of its type in Australia and previously visited Gippsland in 2007 and 2003. Riders range in age from under 10 to over 80 and will leave Lakes Entrance on Saturday, 24 November. The Ride will travel through Bruthen, Briagolong, Rosedale, Traralgon, Yarragon and Mirboo before coming to Bass Coast.
