Monash University Weekly Bulletin

Tomorrow is ‘Explore Monash’ at Gippsland Campus. The free program kicks off at 10 a.m. with a presentation about study habits and preparing for the VCE year by acclaimed motivational speaker Steven McInnes. The prospective students will then hear about the faculties they are most interested in, meet with current students and tour residences. To register call 5122 6594.

• Making the Grade

Eleven students were presented with scholarships worth a total of $23,250 at a special function held at the Switchback Gallery on Wednesday, March 31. The presentation ceremony acknowledged high achievers with $1,500 each and Encouragement Awards for deserving students at a value of $750 each. The high achievers and their graduating schools were: Christopher Brown (Chairo Christian College), Scott Hastings (overseas qualification), Jacqui Howell (Kurnai College), Andrea Martine (Trafalgar High School) and Alice Ryan (Lowanna Secondary College). Encouragement awards were presented to: Jaymee Davis (Traralgon Secondary College), Melinda Eddy (Leongatha Secondary College), Krista Murray (Orbost Secondary College), Peter Stokes (GippsTAFE) and Alissa Wallace (St. Paul’s Anglican Grammar). Wellington Shire Council Mayor Jeffrey Amos presented the final award, a $3000 scholarship to Ms. Jessica Palmer for being a deserving student from Wellington Shire Council. Two other councils will hold separate award days to recognise their deserving students.

Monash University was recently congratulated by the Department of Education, Science and Technology (DEST) for its success at providing alternate pathways to its students. Monash University was recognised as the only Group of Eight (GO8) institution with more than 5 per cent of students admitted through TAFE articulation. Monash University Gippsland Campus is well-placed to continue the articulation success with the upcoming opening of the Gippsland Education Precinct. Helen Reeves is responsible for articulation pathways involving the new Precinct.

No Bulletin will be produced next week as a result of the Easter break. Monash University will be closed April 9, 12 and 13. The next Bulletin will be April 19.
