Strickland Street Make-Over Complete Strickland Street in Wonthaggi is now sporting a new asphalt surface and nature strip. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 5th May 2009 - Back to News The work to seal the road surface and improve drainage was made possible through a special charge scheme.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Director, Steven Piasente, said the $290,500 project had improved the safety of the area and the quality of life for residents.
"The sealed road surface means that there is much less dust for residents to deal with," explained Mr Piasente.
"Underground drainage pipes have also been installed, which will make life easier in wet weather.
"The general safety of the area has also been improved.
"Road humps will reduce the traffic speed along Strickland Street and the shared pathway next to the recreation reserve will make it much safer for people who are walking or riding their bikes."
A nature strip was constructed as part of the project and vegetation has already been planted.
"Council is very pleased with the result and we would like to thank the residents for their patience during the construction," Mr Piasente said.
Sure Constructions were contracted to undertake the project, which began in January and was completed at the end of March.
